The other day I went to my son's 7th grade band concert. generally speaking parents are usually excited about going to these things, because they get to see "little Johnny or little Sally" show off their skills that they have learned throughout the week. For me however, I went into the evening wishing it would end, so that I could go home and watch the presidential debate on t.v. Plus, I have been through these concerts many times before both for my high school daughter and my son back in Missouri, and back there the concerts went about an hour and fifteen minutes for each grade. Much to my surprise though his concert here in Colorado was only thirty minutes long.
After getting over my anxiousness of wanting to be home, as well as seeing several students from our middle school ministry, I was amazed by the quality of sound and organization that the students displayed as they played through their playlist. The band teacher explained to us seventh grade parents that the seventh grade class played a song that was way advanced for them and that she was amazed at how fast they (the seventh graders) learned the song and how well they performed it. As I sat there and watched my son bang away on his percussion instruments, I realized that as I fretted over wanting to watch current and has been leaders on t.v., I was watching the future leaders of this country and of the church show off their skills. I am amazed!
